Sandy Carrell
Nurse Practitioner at Better Health Chiropractic Juneau
Hello Alaska!! I am Sandy Carrell. I am the new Nurse Practitioner here at Better Health Alaska who will help make your life a little easier. We’ve incorporated some of the most-cutting edge conservative medical services available for pain problems.
When you come to our office, I will assess your pain problems and what joint issues you are having. I will then discuss with you possible options for treatment. The treatment options I provide are minimally invasive and essentially painless. Typically, these are minor procedures done in the office where medication is placed either in the affected joint or area of pain.
For the trigger point injection, I administer anywhere from a simple lidocaine (numbing medication) solution to other medications to help with pain and inflammation. These are most helpful for those painful, stubborn knots in muscles in and around your joints and spine.
With PRP — the platelet-rich plasma procedure, I obtain a blood sample from you and inject it into the area of pain. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of your own platelets (which helps your blood clot) to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.
We also offer Regen Therapy to help with worn down, torn, or injured joints. These are human cellular tissue products (HCT’s): actual human tissue that can be injected, transplanted or infused into the area of pain.
You will, along with this type of therapy, also receive physical medicine procedures: chiropractic care, physical therapy, and even massage therapy when needed. We also provide nutritional counseling that will include diet and oral supplements to help improve and provide regeneration of your injured tissues. I also have plenty of other tools that can be utilized to help you!
My Goal as Your Nurse Practitioner
My main goal is to take care of my patients in the best way I can. Patient satisfaction is my number one goal. If I can make you smile and laugh while improving your pain levels, then my job has been accomplished.
Working at Better Health Alaska allows me to do what I studied and trained to do. I can assess my patient and develop a diagnosis and treatment plan. I will be able to perform these outpatient procedures in the office. All follow-up treatments and therapy will continue in our office.
Patients coming to Better Health Alaska are here to get relief from pain and limited mobility that prevents them from enjoying their life and activities. Dr. Wells and I are here to make our patients enjoy life again and to be able to do those activities that bring them happiness and joy.
Educational and Personal Background
I am a lifelong native of northeast Alabama. I had always known I was going to be a nurse at a very early age. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville State University and my master’s degree in Adult Acute and Continuing Care Nurse Practitioner from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. I have been in the medical field for over 31 years.
Being a Nurse Practitioner allows me to care for my patients fully, from the moment you come in the door until you leave. I care for you with heart, body, and soul. I will do whatever I can to help you feel better.
I am married to my wonderful husband Kevin, who is retired military. We have a beautiful 2 ½-year-old fur baby, Gertie, our German Shepherd. We have both taken the leap to move here and pursue a new life in Juneau. My husband and I are adventurous and willing to try new things, and we’re excited to make Juneau our new home!! We love to fish, hunt and hike!! We enjoy spending time with our new friends and look forward to our family visiting.
I’m looking forward to helping you as part of the Better Health Alaska family!
